This report explores Bumiputera participation in Malaysia’s construction industry presents a striking contrast. While Bumiputera account for a significant share of the industry’s professional workforce, their presence at the corporate ownership level remains limited. Of the 75 construction companies listed on Bursa Malaysia, only seven are Bumiputera-controlled, while no Bumiputera construction company underwent an IPO in 2025.

The disparity becomes even more pronounced when measured by economic value. Bumiputera-controlled construction companies contribute just 1.2% of the sector’s total market capitalisation and approximately 2.9% of total revenue among listed construction companies.
